TSL, issues, pains and a solution?

Given our latest spur of activity, I thought I might as well drag out a
couple of old cats from the bag..

When installing TSL, if the target disk contains some kind of data, the
installer will fail after partitioning, due to a failure to sync the
kernel (looking for previous installations locks the disk).

This has still not been fixed, I tried installing TSL at the latest a
couple weeks ago..

Another annoyance, and this is a big and well known one.. swup hangs in
cron when using ftp mirrors.
This one can easily be fixed by using an http mirror in the conf, and is
something one might want to consider for the future releases..

And lastly, I want to bring out the big one, already brought forward
several times over the last few months/years, and as recent as
yesterday.. Swup is outdated!
Maybe it is time to concede defeat and replace our old friend swup..
Once an old dog is living in pain, the decent thing to do, is getting
the rifle, after all.

That said, I feel I have to mention my own reluctance to switch to
something other than swup.

I may be stubborn, I may be foolhardy, but I am patient ;)
